The show which was organized in partnership with Goethe Institute saw curvy models display the best of creativity and style. The designs also included Rwandan cultural fashion where models showcased different fashions styles worn during the early years in the Kingdom of Rwanda. The Cultural Fashion Night organizers had initially targeted at least 100 guests and fashion lovers but were shocked to see a mass of guests turning up. Some of the guests were participants of the World Economic Forum on Africa 2016, one of their main targeted audience. Celestine Ntawirema, the Rwanda Cultural Fashion Show CEO said he is happy that his show succeeded as the number of expected audience was even bigger than initially anticipated.
“We want to promote East African fashion industry around the world. We got an opportunity to invite and let delegates from different parts of the world who attended the World Economic Forum on Africa have a look at our fashion industry. Basically this was for them to see how bright and fantastic fashion is in East Africa. We also wanted to remind folks of the Rwandan culture through traditional fashion and I am happy to have made it,” he said.
Models showcased fashion designs from 6 different East African fashion designers were from Kenya,Tanzania and Rwanda. Joktan Makeke, a Tanzanian designer who owns Makeke Designs, said East African fashion industry is getting bigger since there were a big number of audiences who were there to see how fantastic fashion is today. He revealed that the secret behind his success to fashion industry that lays in the fashion collection of The East African Beauty in the Dark (TEABD) which is based in Tanzania.
“Fashion is improving here in East Africa. I really thank the organizers for taking their time to prepare this show. I hope it is an opportunity that I cannot waste to show my unique designs, which I hope everyone will love to have them on with pride,” he said
The Cultural Fashion Night is part of the annual events that are on Rwanda Cultural Fashion Show’s agenda, before the big event takes place on September 24th.
